2016 My Analogue Year
2015 wasn’t my best year. It was Annus Horribilis if I’m honest. Health issues and several operations stopped me doing so much and I was also forced to close my gallery. So I’ve decided that 2016 is going to be my good year and I have a lot planned. It’s also going to be “My Analogue Year”.
Firstly I’m going to get my head around wet plate photography. 
I bought all the equipment early last year just before everything went pear-shaped and I have been chewing at the bit ever since, I’m really excited about it and can’t wait to get started now. I have my last operation next Monday and hopefully within two or three weeks I should be up and running again so watch this space.
I have also decided to shoot a lot of film this year, sometimes you have to get your hands dirty and get toxic with the chemicals, digital is becoming very cliche for me and I need a different challenge. I will obviously still shoot digital because needs must at times but I need to stretch my imagination and come up with something different and I hope original. I will of course have to remember how to use Analogue cameras again, take meter readings, use my brain to calculate exposures and use a tripod, there is no auto-focus on these cameras but it will be challenging, creative and fun, which brings me to my new projects for 2016.
I’m going to be working a lot with pinhole cameras this year that will hopefully culminate into an exhibition for either the end of the year or the beginning of 2017. I will let you know more about it as it progresses. I also have a night project up my sleeve that I have actually started working on already, oh and hopefully my gallery will re-open in April. So there it is a little insight into my new year, maybe this year will be annus mirabilis after all. Keep checking in and I will keep you all up to date. 13/01/2016Good Thinking is all I can say. I am so pleased to see so many familiar cameras in your armoury and me too I shall be shooting more film. I shoot digital for my clients on commercial work and tend to shoot film “when I get a moment” which seems to be less and less!
Where is your Gallery please? I have just started something of this nature in Somerset although most of my landscape work has been done on Rannoch Moor or close by.
I have shot a few projects on film recently, including a pregnancy shoot, local traditional fishermen and a community project and they have been very well received.

I have been following your comments through John Barron’s f/b as we were in Andalusia on a photographic course together a few years ago. I can recall wet plate photography from working at a photography business in Hamilton as a teenager developing and printing wedding photographs. That started my interest in photography. Although totally on digital now I still have film cameras. I wish you all the best in tackling this activity and will be watching with interest for the outcome.
